End Citizens United and Conor Lamb Join Forces in Fight for Pennsylvania Seat
The political world has been in pure upheaval since the election of Donald Trump in 2016. Trump’s meteoric rise up the political ladder was heralded by members of the right while simultaneously derided by, well, just about everyone else. Now, a year into his Presidency, Trump has ushered in little more than pure divisiveness. That divisiveness, it appears, will be on full display during the 2018 Midterm Elections as well as the host of special elections taking place across the United States of America. One of the elections that is coming under intense scrutiny is the Pennsylvania Special Election featuring Democrat Conor Lamb and Republican Rick Saccone. The election has taken on renewed importance in light of End Citizens United’s endorsement of Conor Lamb.
Conor Lamb is the surging young Democrat who could be looking to make big changes in Pennslyvania’s typically deep red 18th Congressional District. The special election is slated for March 13th and it looked like it could potentially be close, even without End Citizens United getting involved. Lamb’s endorsement from End Citizens United will likely be one of the big reasons that he has a more than good chance to make a difference when the election comes around, so let’s deep dive into why ECU has set their sights on on this election.
End Citizens United is a political action committee that has been uniquely focused on fighting to overturn the 2010 Supreme Court case surrounding Citizens United, a conservative propaganda group. Citizens United fought to allow big businesses into the pockets of politicians, thus taking away the power of the people. End Citizens United is in the habit of supporting progressive politicians who are willing to champion campaign finance reform, and Conor Lamb is one of those politicians.
End Citizens United announced their endorsement of Lamb and that should immediately put opponent Rick Saccone on notice. Saccone is a 59-year-old state rep who had served in the military as an intelligence officer. Both Lamb and Saccone will be fighting for a seat that was recently vacated by disgraced Republican Tim Murphy, who was forced to bow out after an extramarital affair and abortion drama made headline news around the country. With End Citizens United behind him, Lamb looks like he has momentum on his side. However, the battle is far from over so End Citizens United is urging people to get out and vote to make a difference.
